Vahakni Open 2016″ Amateur Tournament

Since 2012 the National Golf Association of Armenia jointly with the Ararat Golf Club has opened the season with the “Vahakni Open” Amateur Tournaments.
On April 17 was held the 5th Annual Vahakni Open Golf Tournament, dedicated to the memory of Armenian Golf Legend and Founder of Golf in Armenia, Mr. Vahagn Hovnanian.
The Opening Ceremonies were attended by “AWS” General Director Mr. Patrick Lorin, Head of “SAUR” International Relations Department Mr. 
Patrick Allano, Czech Ambassador in Armenia Mr. Peter Mikiska, Head of the Sport and Youth Affairs Department of the Yerevan Municipality Mr. Yuri Mamikonyan, Director of Tennis and Badminton sport school Mr. Samvel Stepanyan, as well other official guests and businessmen.
The tournament’s opening speech was made by Shant and Nina Hovnanian. Then, a minute of silence was observed in memory of soldiers who died in Artsakh.
A special guest was Walter Viti, member of the European Golf Teachers Federation and professional coach. In cooperation with the NGAA Mr. Viti will conduct a two-day golf training clinic for advanced and beginner golfers.
The “AWS” and “SAUR” companies made donation of kid’s golf clubs to the sport school students
The “Vahakni Open” Tournament consisted of 20 golfers divided into two subgroups, group A for experienced golfers and group B for beginners. In Group A Mrs. Nushik Gevorgyan took 1st place, 2nd place was Patrick Allano, and 3rd place was Mr. Bruce Matzkin. In Group B the top three in order were Mr. Alyosha Aleksanyan, Mrs. Armenuhi Mkrtchian, and Mr. Christian De Nanteuil.
The next tournament is the “Diplomatic Cup”, which will be held will be held on May 8 at the Ararat Golf Club.
